BIGWAY FOODS in Souris is changing hands early in 2022.

After owning the business since 2008 Ramona Taylor and Darryl Moreau felt it was time to move on and sell.

“Darryl and I have been in the grocery business for a long time and we decided our time in the business was over and we decided to sell. We’ve been trying to find a buyer for about a year” said Ramona Taylor.

For Pembina Co-op it’s a great opportunity to expand their retail presence in the region. Pembina already has a gas bar and convenience store, the Souris Home Centre and a card lock.

"We are excited to grow not only within the community of Souris and surrounding area, but we are also very excited to grow our retail in the commodities of food and liquor." said Pembina Co-op General Manager Curtis Lehouillier.

"We will continue to strive to be true members of the communities that we serve, and that means supporting community groups and initiatives and caring about the causes our community members care about."

Pembina Co-op will officially take ownership in early 2022, with the specific date to be determined.  During this transition, the store will operate as usual.  All Souris Valley Foods (Bigway) employees will be given the opportunity to remain employed at the store once Pembina Co-op takes ownership.

“We had other offers but felt the Co-op would look after the business and grow it. They promised to keep any of the existing staff that wanted to stay and that was a big priority for us in deciding to sell and hopefully that happens.”

Customers can expect to see more Co-op label products stocked throughout the store once the transition is complete.
