After a promising start to the 2021-22 snowmobile season conditions deteriorated as much of the original snowfall melted away.

Groomers basically sat idle last year because of the lack of snow and clubs in the Westman region hope for better conditions this winter.

“We’re ready to roll as far as the snowmobile season. We had some snow but it was too early. Our club has met and we are ready to go but we need snow and after the last two years we are ready to roll,” said Gord Weidenhamer President of the Southwest Snowtrackers.

The club maintains 350 kilometres of trail system that goes through several communities including Deloraine, Boissevain and Turtle Mountain Provincial Park.

“Once we get snow we can’t go into the park until hunting season ends and that’s mid December. We’ve got a verbal commitment with the park but we don’t have a signed contract to be allowed in there.”

“Nothing has changed from last year and we just hope to get going with the groomers this winter,” said Weidenhamer.
