Cam Whyte had two goals and two assists and Drake Bodie had a goal and three helpers as the Virden Oil Kings defeated the Blues 8-2 in Hartney in the lone Tiger Hills Hockey League game. Ryder Richmond, Jordan Boyechko, Jaxon Heeney, Tanner Koroscil and Tanner Lewis also scored for the Oil Kings who picked up their first win after starting the season with three straight losses. Alastair McFadden and Ty Paddock replied for the Blues. Hartney has a 1-2 record.


The Manitoba Junior Hockey League's Virden Oil Capitals gave up three first period goals and lost 5-2 to the OCN Blizzard at Gordon Lathlin Memorial Centre. Jackson Orr and Evan Groening did the goal scoring for the Oil Capitals who face the Blizzard again tonight in OCN.


The Winnipeg Jets lost 2-1 to Edmonton. Connor McDavid and Kyle Turris scored in the shootout for the Oilers. Nikolaj Ehlers had the lone goal for the Jets in regulation. Edmonton goaltender Stuart Skinner stopped 46 shots while Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck made 31 saves. 


Bobbi Uhl of Shilo and Braxton Kuntz of Breezy Bend are Golf Manitoba's 2021 Amateur Golfers of the Year. Uhl won the Provincial Women's Amateur and the City & District Championship. Kuntz captured the Provincial Junior and Provincial Men's Amateur championships matching a feat accomplished by Manitoba Golf Hall of Famers Rob McMillan and Todd Fanning. 


The Vincent Massey Vikings are the Winnipeg High School Football League's Westman Bowl champions. Justin Sharp passed for 189 yards and three touchdowns and also rushed for 92 yards and a major as the Vikings defeated the Steinbach Regional Secondary School Sabres 31-23 Thursday at East Side Eagles Field in Winnipeg.
