Eric Reid made 22 saves and Nathan McInnis had a goal and an assist in the Virden Oil Capitals 5-1 victory over the Winkler Flyers 5-1. Logan Rands, Jack Oleksiuk, Braden Fischer and Bryden Kiesman also scored for the Oil Capitals.

 

The Boissevain Border Kings, Wawanesa Jets, MacGregor Wild and Gladstone Lakers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League Friday night. Devon Leblanc scored three times and Tyler Dittmer had four assists as the Border Kings downed the Hartney Blues 11-3. Mike Reykdal scored his third goal of the game 26 seconds into overtime to lift the Jets past the Neepawa Farmers 7-6. Dustin Bruce had two goals and two assists as the Wild downed the Pilot Mound Pilots 8-3 and Sean Kubas scored five times, the Lakers beat the Carberry Plainsmen 9-2.

 

The Brandon Wheat Kings and Winnipeg Ice were both winners on Friday night. Nate Danielson scored the go-ahead goal shorthanded with 3:18 left in the third period and Nolan Ritchie added an empty netter with a minute 31 remaining to lead the Wheat Kings past the Lethbridge 4-2 in Lethbridge. Conor Geekie and Jakin Smallwood each had a goal and an assist as the Ice edged the Saskatoon Blades 4-3.

 

Three players, defenseman Jamie Bourbonnais (Mississauga) and forwards Jessie Eldridge (Barrie) and Julia Gosling (London) have been released from Canada’s National Women’s Team centralization roster. Canada trimmed its roster after following a month-long training schedule that included a series in Finland, two Rivalry Series games with the United States and the Capital City Challenge in Ottawa. Twenty-six players including goaltender Kristin Campbell of Brandon and defensemen Ashton Bell of Deloraine and Jocelyne Larocque of Ste. Anne remain of Canada’s roster. Twenty-three players will be chosen for the 2022 Olympic Winter Games in Beijing.

 

Trevor Loreth lost 8-4 to Phillipe Menard of Quebec, beat Mark Noseworthy of Newfoundland and Labrador 7-3 and was the eliminated after losing 6-3 to Nicholas Deagle of Nova Scotia at the Canadian Curling Club Championships in Ottawa. Deb McCreanor was eliminated after losing 7-4 to Julia Goodin of New Brunswick and 5-2 to Tiffany Steuber of Alberta.
