Tracy Fleury, Selena Njegovan, Liz Fyfe and Kristin MacCuish have the day off at the 2021 Canadian Curling Trials in Saskatoon. The East St. Paul foursome finished the round robin in first place with a perfect 8-0 record and earned a berth in the women's final on Sunday. Jennifer Jones of the St. Vital Curling Club, who lost 7-6 to Fleury on Friday afternoon and finished at 5-3, will play in the semifinal tonight against either Kerri Einarson of Gimli, Casey Scheidegger of Lethbridge or Krista McCarville of Thunder Bay who ended up in a tie for third place at 4-4. Einarson, who will meet Scheidegger in the first tie-breaker, needed a win over Kelsey Rocque of Edmonton in the final round robin draw to advance to the semifinals but lost 8-4 to the two-time World Junior champion. The Einarson - Scheidegger winner will face McCarville in the second tie-breaker. Brad Gushue of St. John's will play in the men's final on Sunday. Brad Jacobs of Thunder Bay and Kevin Koe of Edmonton will meet in the semifinal. Mike McEwen of West St. Paul finished the round robin with a 4-4 record while Jason Gunnlaugson of the Morris Curling Club was 2-6.


Jordon McDonald and Meghan Walter lost out in the quarterfinals of the World Junior Curling Qualifiers in Saskatoon. McDonald, Reece Hamm, Elias Huminicki and Alexandre Fontaine dropped a 7-2 decision to Nathan Young of Newfoundland & Labrador. Walter, Lane Prokopowich, Katie McKenzie and Mackenzie Elias dropped a 7-4 decision to Taylour Stevens of Nova Scotia.


The Boissevain Border Kings, Virden Oil Kings and Cartwright Clippers were winners in the Tiger Hills Hockey League. Devon Leblanc scored twice and Jay Pringle recorded the shutout as the Border Kings blanked the Deloraine Royals 5-nothing, Tanner Koroscil scored the go-ahead goal midway through the third period to lift the Oil Kings past the Melita Bisons 3-2. Tanner Fluker scored twice and Troy Chandler made 39 saves as the Cartwright Clippers shutout the Plainsmen 7-0 in Carberry.


Wheat Kings captain Ridly Greig had three goals and two assists in Brandon’s 7-4 victory over the Medicine Hat Tigers. Vincent Iorio, Marcus Kallionkieli, Nate Danielson and Brett Hyland also scored for the home team. Nolan Ritchie chipped in with three assists for the Wheat Kings who have four wins and a loss on their six-game homestand.


The Winnipeg Jets winless drought has reached five games. Kirill Kaprizov had a goal and three assists in the Minnesota Wild’s 7-1 victory over Winnipeg. Pierre-Luc Dubois had the lone goal for the Jets who have scored just five times during the losing skid.
