The Brandon Wheat Kings improved their record to 2-1 at the Telus Cup in Membertou, Nova Scotia. Burke Hood stopped 27 shots including all 14 he faced in the third period as the Manitoba U18 AAA Hockey League champions shaded the Kensington Wild 2-1. Easton Odut and Declan Hoad did the goal scoring for the Wheat Kings who will play their second last preliminary round game today (9 a.m.) against the Calgary Buffaloes.


Canada will play its preliminary round opener today (11 a.m.) against Sweden at the 2024 World U18 Hockey Championship in Vantaa, Finland. Defenseman Charlie Elick and forward Roger McQueen of the Brandon Wheat Kings are on Team Canada's roster. Canada will also face Switzerland, Czechia and Kazakhstan in Group B.


The Manitoba Moose face a must-win situation tonight when they meet the Texas Stars in Cedar Park. The Stars lead the best-of-three Central Division opening round series 1-0 after a 6-3 victory over the Moose on Tuesday. 


Montreal and Ottawa were winners in the Professional Women's Hockey League on Wednesday night. Ann-Renée Desbiens made 31 saves as Montreal defeated New York 5-2. With the regulation win, Montreal officially clinched a playoff berth— they’re the second PWHL team to earn a postseason spot, after Toronto did so on April 20th. New York is officially eliminated from playoff contention with the loss. Katerina Mrázová scored twice in the shootout as Ottawa shaded Boston 3-2. 


Kadriana Lott & Colton Lott have clinched a playoff spot at the World Mixed Doubles Curling Championship in Oestersund, Sweden. Lott & Lott defeated Tahli Gill and Dean Hewitt of Australia 11-4 this morning and improved to 7-1. The Manitoba and Canadian champions will play their final round robin game at 11 a.m. against Becca Hamilton & Matt Hamilton of the United States.
