The Winnipeg Jets opened their four-game homestand with a 1-0 loss to Arizona. Coyotes netminder Karel Vejmelka made 46 saves in recording his first NHL shutout. Antoine Roussel scored the only goal of the game at 17:59 of the second period. Winnipeg's Connor Hellebuyck faced 15 shots. The Jets, who went 0-for-5 on the powerplay, have lost six of their last seven games and host New Jersey on Friday.


Two Manitoba Junior Hockey League teams remain in the Canadian Junior Hockey Leagues Weekly Top 20 Rankings. The Dauphin Kings (20-4) have moved up two spots from eighth to sixth while the Steinbach Pistons (18-5-1) have jumped from 15th place to 12th. The Winnipeg Blues, who were in 13th place last week, have fallen out of the top 20. The Alberta Junior Hockey League's Brooks Bandits (26-1-1) hold down the number one slot for the fifth straight week.


Deb McCreanor of the La Salle Curling Club and Trevor Loreth of the Granite Curling Club in Winnipeg won their opening round robin games Monday at the Canadian Curling Club Championships in Ottawa. McCreanor downed Jennifer Taylor of Newfoundland and Labrador 7-4. Loreth beat Mark Noseworthy of Newfoundland and Labrador 8-5.
