Family entertainment and cattle and horse shows have taken over the Keystone Centre in Brandon this week with the Royal Manitoba Winter Fair. On Tuesday in particular, the focus of the show put a spotlight on 4H, although the organization had a booth on display all week.

Manitoba 4H Council executive director Clayton Robins says their programs are moving to include more science and technology projects, which they showcased this week at their booth.

"We've got a whole bunch of science experiments," he says, "one of our leaders was actually trained at national meetings about being one of our science leaders, and she'll just take them through a bunch of fun experiments that they do, and they can be incorporated into some fun activities or a 4H project."

Robins notes agriculture projects are still an important part of 4H programs, but he says the Winter Fair is a great chance to show people the diversity of 4H.

"We're not all cows and cooking," he says. "Having 4H Day every year is a wonderful thing. It's a chance for our members around the province to get together and do a few things throughout the day, as well as showcase the program to people that maybe don't know enough about us yet."

Robins says they have a long history with the Provincial Exhibition of Manitoba, and thinks it's always wonderful to be at the Winter Fair.

The Winter Fair wraps up on Saturday, with more shows and demonstrations, including mini chuckwagon racing and SuperDogs.
