US President-elect Donald Trump has said he wants to reopen NAFTA.

Conservative Agriculture Critic David Anderson took the liberal government to task last week in the House of Commons over their agreement to reopen NAFTA.

"This isn't just about softwood," he said. "Canadian agriculture, specifically beef and pork exports, are being targeted as well. We fought for 10 years and we won the Country of Origin Labelling battle. Now this Liberal government has offered to renegotiate NAFTA and has given the US the green light to reopen this contentious and costly issue."

Agriculture Minister Lawrence MacAuley responded by saying the United States is Canada’s closest trading partner, adding they have a very important economic relationship.
