More than 22,000 cattle at farms in Alberta and Saskatchewan have been quarantined due to a bovine tuberculosis outbreak.

As of the weekend, six cattle have tested positive for Bovine TB, all from one infected herd.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) is testing cattle to determine the extent of the outbreak and the source of the infection.

Manitoba Beef Producers General Manager Brian Lemon says Manitoba producers have not been affected.

"No affect at all in this case. My understanding is, it's a very different strain of tuberculosis that they've found and that there haven't been any links beyond that geographic region."

Lemon adds TB is a reportable disease and there's always a chance of impact on trade.

He notes that although six animals have tested positive, it is only considered one incident which shouldn't impact Canada's ability to export animals.
