Canada's new crop mission tours will include stops in about 20 different countries on five different continents.

The tour started over the weekend in Japan and will wrap up on December 18th.

Cereals Canada President Cam Dahl says there are a number of challenges that will be focused on this year.

"In particular fusarium's a difficulty this year," he explained. "We saw more fursarium this year than we've seen for a long time. That does reduce the amount of No 1 and No 2 hard red spring wheat available. The good news is we're still going to have about 50 per cent of the crop that's No 1 and No 2 and is going to meet those international guidelines for fusarium or deoxynivalenol contents."

The new crop mission tours will focus on hard red spring wheat, durum, and Canadian Prairie Spring.

Dahl notes that Canada is the only country that takes the entire value chain along on the tours including producers, exporters, the Canadian Grain Commission, Cigi, and Cereals Canada.
