In its latest crop report, Manitoba Agriculture, Food, and Rural Development is pegging total seeding progress in Manitoba at 93%, although that number might be skewed a bit due to reseeding.

Temperatures dipped below freezing on Saturday, May 30 with many crops showing injury symptoms. The level of crop damage will depend on the stage of crop development, minimum air temperatures reached, and the duration of those temperatures.

Pam de Roquigny, cereal specialist with MAFRD, says the hardest hit region seems to be in the west, but she notes there were pockets elsewhere in the province that were affected.

Canola reseeding continues from acres that were affected by frost, wind and excess moisture conditions in mid-May. Reseeding is also taking place as a result of the frost damage on May 30.

Weed control was slowed down by adverse weather towards the end of last week and will remain a priority for producers.

Flea beetle activity in canola also continues to be a concern.
