Canadian National Railway says it is ready to move this year's crop, which is expected to be another large one.

CN Representative Greg Hamilton offered an update on grain shipping during the University of Manitoba's Fields on Wheels conference in Winnipeg.

He says all of their cars are now deployed.

"When things were slower through the summer months we actually did a repair program on 700 government hoppers," explained Hamilton. "We've called back crews, we have available locomotives. So we are in a position to move this crop over the crop year."

Hamilton noted that weather during the first seven weeks of shipping really hampered progress of grain movement, adding recent storms in Vancouver delayed some off the offloading.

The company expects to be supplying abut 4,000 grain cars per week during the winter months.
