G3 Global Holdings, a limited partnership between Bunge Canada and Salic Canada, has announced that it's examining the feasibility of building an export grain terminal in Vancouver.

Bunge and Salic have also formed G3 Global Grain Group, which was named the successful investor in CWB.

CEO Karl Gerrand says the group already has an excellent eastern footprint, and now was the time to look west.

"Obviously Vancouver, being one of the busiest and most active ports on the west coast, was our first choice," he said. "The land that we've secured in our partnership with Western Stevedoring, we feel is not only the best deep water port site on the west coast, but we also think it's one of the last sites that are available. Really strategic for us to be able to get some capacity off that west coast."

Gerrand notes the feasibility study on the export terminal should be completed in the next four to six months.

He hopes their deal to acquire CWB can be closed by late summer/early fall.
