Farmers will be monitoring their fields closely over the next few days and weeks for any signs of disease following last week's rainfall.

G3 Canada's weather and crop specialist Bruce Burnett says with a return to hot, dry weather the potential for disease now is strong.

"Especially early growth leaf diseases, those types of things that farmers are going to have to be on the lookout for. But generally speaking these rains are good news for the crop this year, looking at improved soil moisture reserves and getting the crop off to a much better start than we saw this time last year," he says.

Burnett put seeding progress on the Prairies on Friday at about 98 per cent complete.
