Winter wheat harvest continues in Manitoba, and it looks like some of the spring-seeded crops aren't far away from harvest, either.

According to the weekly crop report, swathing or pre-harvest applications in the earliest-seeded spring cereal and canola crops have started. Manitoba Agriculture cereal specialist Pam de Rocquigny says some of the spring-seeded crops actually started coming off the field last week.

"There were some fields of spring wheat, some barley, some oats... so harvest has actually started there, I think there's just been a few early-seeded acres that have been taken off. We haven't heard any reports of yield or quality, so it's just really a small number of fields that have been harvested at this point," she says.

The strong weather systems and storms from last week did cause lodging in crops as well as delays to harvest and field operations. The report says a return to warmer and drier weather conditions would be welcome to improve field conditions and crop growth in areas where excess moisture is a concern.
