Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is working with the province on a program that will train potential ag employees and connect them with farmers looking for workers.

KAP General Manager James Battershill says labour shortages is one of the greatest challenges in the ag sector across Canada.

"We're excited that the provincial government is taking this seriously," he commented. "We know that both nationally and provincially, politicians are recognizing the value of the agriculture sector and the economic contribution that it makes to our country and province."

At this time, the program is not geared towards temporary foreign workers, but rather Canadians who are looking for full-time employment.

Battershill notes the program is in its infancy, adding they're currently trying to identify job vacancies in the industry.
