Legend Seeds held its Knowledge Plot Tours this week in Winkler and Brandon, showcasing corn, soybean, and sunflower plots.

Legend's business development manager for Canada, Jeff Bereza, says overall the plots are looking fantastic, noting they are quite diverse, include early-maturing and long-season corn and soybean varieties. He says they also worked to have variety in the information being shared at the tours.

"We wanted growers to be able to basically take their crop at the Knowledge Plot Tours here and look at it from cradle to grave, meaning we want the growers to look at their seeding population, how deep they should be planting these beans, what type of seed treatments might work on these beans, what type of fungicide and herbicides might work," Bereza says.

This year, Bereza says Legend also changed the format of the plot tours by breaking down presentations into several stations, rather than moving through the plots as one large group.

At one of these stations, Daniel Acuna, the dealer account manager for Legend Seeds Canada, spoke about some of the new traits and genetics in soybeans, such as the new Solaire variety.

"The big, key take-home characteristic that we've been letting our customers know is just the phytophthora rating on this variety," Acuna says, noting the variety also has good tolerance to iron deficiency chlorosis (IDC). "Given the high, peak stress periods we've been seeing going through nodulation, the amount of rain we've been getting, the standing water, it has proven that it's pushed through and greened up quite well."

Acuna also highlighted the Mistral and PRO 2525 soybean varieties for their IDC rating.
