Keystone Agricultural Producers (KAP) is busy gathering farmers' feedback about the proposed carbon tax.

The federal government has ordered all provinces to begin charging a price on carbon by 2018. Manitoba has said it will come up with its own plan tailored to residents in this province.

KAP's Climate Initiative Coordinator Sean Goertzen was in the Morden/Winkler region this week at the Stanley Soil Management Association AGM, hearing what farmers had to say on the issue.

"We've heard from a lot of KAP members, producers around Manitoba and people are concerned," he said. "They're concerned about what this tax could mean for their profitability and their competitiveness and we're hearing that and that's the message we're taking to the province, is that they're concerned and that the province needs to address these concerns."

Goertzen notes he's been to about 10 events around province so far to gather feedback.

He adds KAP would like to see some town hall events organized so that farmers can speak directly with the provincial government.

The province has launched an online survey on the issue that will be available until March 19, 2017.
