The general manager of Manitoba Beef Producers has officially resigned from her post with the farmer-run organization.

Melinda German took over the position in March 2014, but will now be moving to Calgary to manage the Canadian Beef Cattle Research, Market Development and Promotion Agency.

German says Manitoba has been her home for a number of years, but she is excited for what is to come in Alberta.

"This is an excellent opportunity for me to work at a national level and continue to serve beef producers, particularly those I have gotten to know during my time in Manitoba," she says in a statement on Friday. "This is an important time for the beef industry and I'm excited to have the opportunity to be part of it while continuing to work in the best interests of producers."

German's last day with MBP is February 22.

MBP president Heinz Reimer says German accomplished a lot in her time with the organization and wishes her the best in her new position. He says they'll begin the search for a new general manager immediately.
