Soybean growers wanting to assess their plant stand are now able to do so with the help of an iPhone.

Manitoba Pulse and Soybean Growers (MPSG) has released a new Bean App that is available as a free download on the App Store for Apple device users.

Production Specialist Kristen Podolsky says technology is being adapted faster and faster at the farm level.

"Our organization has a strong emphasis on conducting research, so our main goal is to find ways to interpret the research and bring it to farmers and agronomists that's a way that's user friendly," she said. "So I think the biggest feature of this is that it's taking scientific research and bringing it right to the farm in an easy to use format and helps provide feedback on production practices to optimize our soybean production."

Features included on the new Bean App include a new seeding rate calculator, a soybean yield estimator and a plant stand assessor.

The program is also available to non-apple users as a web application.
