The Sask Canola documentary License to Farm: Building Trust One Acre at a Time was officially released two weeks ago.

Berteig Imaging produced the show, and Alexi Berteig is one of the film's producers. He says the documentary is designed to encourage farmers to stand up and tell their story on food production and safety.

"Canadians should actually be incredibly proud of our agricultural system and the way that we produce food," he says. "We send our food everywhere in the world, it is the highest quality, the safest, the most nutritious and the most incredible variety of food. Consumers should really be going into their grocery stores and saying, 'I want the Canadian produce.'"

The half-hour documentary focuses on consumer misunderstanding of things like GMOs and pesticides, and how farmers can change these perceptions.

"It is really a piece to encourage farmers to stand up and let them know that they are trusted, that they have a story to tell, that they should tell that story, and that the public is interested in what they have to say. We've talked to scientists, we've talked to experts in varying fields and we've talked to farmers as well," he said.
