Many producers are busy planning their crop rotation schedules for the upcoming year.

Manitoba Agriculture Oilseed Specialist Anastasia Kubinec recommends producers plan as far as six years in advance to get the most benefits out of their crop rotation.

"If you plan further ahead, you can capture some of the markets as they become available," she explained. "Every year we have crops that really spike in potential for returns on investment."

Kubinec notes that planning further ahead also helps with managing issues such as weed species and potential insect cycles.

She adds it makes economic and agronomic sense to go with a more diverse crop rotation, instead of the "Manitoba Classic" of wheat-canola-wheat-canola.
