Another case of the Porcine Epidemic Diarrhea virus (PEDv) has been confirmed in southeast Manitoba, bringing the total number to ten since the end of April.

The latest was confirmed Thursday at a finisher operation.

Manitoba's Chief Veterinary Office (CVO) updated hog producers on the situation Friday morning during a town hall conference call.

Dr. Glen Duzier explained that there are two main areas being affected. He said there are six farms in one area, a second area with three farms, and one in an additional area with a direct link to the second area.

"Currently there are some linkages between the two areas," commented Duzier. "I mean we're still continuing to follow-up on the potential spread from area one to area two but the bulk of our spread has happened within each geographic area."

He notes that all sites are under biocontainment and control procedures, adding it could be months before the affected barns are cleaned up.
