Manitoba Agriculture's weekly crop report estimates seeding in the province is nearing completion, putting progress at 96 per cent complete.

The report attributes rapid growth and emergence to warmer temperature and recent rainfall, however the precipitation may not have been a good news story all across the province.

While areas like southwestern Manitoba received timely and much-needed rainfall, certain parts of central and eastern Manitoba were left with standing water. The crop report reflects that many areas of the province needed this moisture for continued crop growth, but it says the forecast of rainfall for this week will be a concern for some producers, noting a return to drier, sunny weather would be welcomed in areas hit hardest by rainfall over the past week.

The crop report also notes numbers on diamondback moths have been generally low in most areas, with some cutworm activity reported. Application of herbicides for weed control will remain a priority for producers as crops and weeds continue to advance quickly.
