The Canadian Grain Commission (CGC) is deregistering three flax varieties. As of Aug. 1, 2017, CDC Arras, Flanders, and Somme will be removed from the variety designation list for flaxseed.

"In this particular case, these varieties are older varieties and the owners decided to no longer keep the registration up to date," says Daryl Beswitherick, progam manager of quality assurance standards with CGC.

He says they'll become unregistered varieties, so if producers choose to grow them after 2017, they would only qualify for the lowest grade of flax.
