Recent hot and dry weather is helping to quickly mature crops across Manitoba, allowing for excellent progress in harvest. Harvest of winter wheat, spring wheat, barley, and oats continues, with reported winter wheat yields range from 50 to 90 bushels per acre, and red spring wheat yields from 50 to 70 bushels per acre.

However Manitoba Agriculture's Pam de Rocquigny says crop lodging has impacted yield and quality in some fields.

"It's also impacted harvest progress as it's a little more difficult to pick up that's lodged," she says. "We're hearing from producers that the areas of fields that were severely lodged definitely have been impacted."

Manitoba producers also started taking canola crops off the field this past week. Crop maturity varies across the province due to seeding dates, but swathing has started in the southwestern, eastern, and Interlake areas of the province. Harvest of canola also started in central areas, with early yields ranging from 30 to 50 bushels per acre.
