Rains in Manitoba over the past couple of weeks have been frequent and significant in some areas, though it looks like things could improve.

World Weather agri-meteorologist Drew Lerner says there could be some better weather in the days ahead to allow for some of the sogginess to clear up. However, he stresses this still won't mean ideal harvest weather, as he notes there is a system forecast to move through the province this week.

"It will probably bring us a little bit of moisture as early as Wednesday, and be gone already by the time we get to the end of the week, but there will be another cool front that will cut through over the weekend," Lerner says. "So we're still going to have some precipitation in Manitoba, it's just not going to be as heavy or as frequent as it has been."

Lerner says there will also be some cooler temperatures this week, which could mean a frost, though he doesn't expect it will be a damaging freeze.

"I don't think we'll hard freezes at all for at least another week to 10 days. So it will be sometime late September that we'll encounter a more meaningful freeze," he says.

Lerner says otherwise there could also be significant dew at night, which could also play a hand in delaying harvest somewhat.
