The first Polar Plunge in Morden in support of Special Olympics Manitoba took place Saturday at the Access Event Centre. It involved people raising money to have the opportunity to jump into a freezing cold pool of water.

Morning Show Co-Host Chris Sumner MC'd the afternoon which saw 45 plungers take the dive. When we started it was -17, with a windchill of -29... polar conditions indeed!

The event is organized by the Law Enforcement Torch Run which holds a number of fundraisng events throughout the year supporting Special Olympics Manitoba.

Locally Constable Scott Edwards from Morden Police Service was one of the organizers and Plungers. I spoke with him shortly after the event wrapped up... icicles on noses and all.

So just what was it like to jump into that pool of freezing cold water?

Chris can't tell you, because he was bundled up on the sidelines MCing, but someone who can is Altona's Valerie Delorme, a first time plunger and Special Olympics athlete.

Valerie has qualified for snowshoeing at the Special Olympics Canada Winter Games taking place in Cornerbrook, Newfoundland March 1st to 5th and she used that as part of her inspiration to take the plunge.

And just how much money was raised? $32,150 for Special Olympics Manitoba, an amazing total for a first time event.

And for those who call southwestern Manitoba home, you can participate in the Brandon Polar Plunge February 20th. You can learn more on how to register on the Special Olympics Manitoba website.
