The Killarney Turtle Mountain Arts Council is assessing the past year while planning for 2022.

The pandemic impacted the group’s ability to fund raise and how they hosted programs, exhibits and entertainment.

Arts Administrator Jane Ireland called it an interesting year. “We certainly had to get our creative juices running to still deliver arts and culture to the community.”

“Our performing arts we were able to do quite a bit with that because we could get funding to do more digital programming which was lovely and that’s continuing until the end of March. We’re into winter and with higher cases of covid so I think we’ll be swinging back to digital for a little bit” said Jane Ireland.

The past year was financially challenging because it was difficult for the group to do it’s regular type fund raising. “We landed a number of grants for programming but where we fall short is covering operating costs and make sure there is a staff person to bring the programs in. We did get a little bit of money from the municipality but we have to reapply and hopefully we get that again.”

Looking at 2022 programming Jane Ireland says they’ve put out the call for input and ideas from supporters.

“We’re starting a new year and I know people are still a bit hesitant about coming out so we’re trying to figure pout how we can best serve the community.”

The Arts Council wants to know what people want for programs and concerts in 2022.

“Thanks to some grants we upgraded our equipment and can do more virtual and online programming so that should help us in the coming year.”
