The inaugural Create fund raising event was held over two night last week in Brandon and it raised close to $3,000 for the group’s Create Art program.

The event feature artwork from more than 25 Manitoba artists. It had a theme of black and white.

Dawn Redlin is executive manager and create leader with Westman YFC and she was happy to see so many people attending the fund raiser. “Over the two nights we had 90 people at the show and sale. We also had lots of positive comments about our first-time event.”

“We sold 25 pieces of art and so far, have raised more than $2,700 for the program.”

The Create Art program runs once a week and Westman YFC provides a meal and use of all of their art supply at no charge to the youth enrolled in the program.

“Money raised last week will go towards art supplies and food for the meals. We’re excited we’ll have some funds to continue with the program,” said Redlin.

The program started in 2019 and Dawn Redlin says they’ve had more than 100 youth take part in the Create Art program. On any given week YFC hosts about 10 youth for the art program.

“We haven’t decided whether or not to make it an annual event but I’m thinking it probably will be. We’ll tally up the numbers to see how it went but we had lots of positive comments and people asking what the theme will be next year.”
