Cherry Creek Place is the new assisted living complex in the south end of Boissevain and it opened in 2021.

The facility has 35 suites and right now 24 unites are occupied.

“We had a big push last year and got up to 24 suites but it’s quiet now but we’re still quite confident we’ll fill right up. It’s winter time and maybe covid is an issue but we’ve slowed down now because of the season and it is what it is I guess” said George Heide with Southwest Senior's Housing the group behind the project.

“For start up we’re happy to have 24 suites filled and we’re hearing from people they are really enjoying the assisted living.”

When Cherry Creek Place first opened there was an issue with the kitchen and food services. Heide says that has been rectified and residents are enjoying their meals.

“It running normally now and we did have a few glitches and we had to make some changes to start up. The inspection and occupancy happened and we’re up and running the way we want to be. We have a great staff and a full slate of workers all the way around and they’re working out really well.”

For the residents it has been an adjustment moving from their own home to communal living but they still have their own suite. “They really enjoy the interaction with others and not having to make their own food. It’s positive but it takes some adjustments but they love it they really do.”

George Heide remains confident they can fill the assisted living complex in 2022.

“At one point we had 60 names on a list but that didn’t mean everyone wanted to move in right away. Some are maybe waiting to sell property and some are just waiting another six months to see how the place runs. There’s always that aspect of it.”

George Heide says the multi-million dollar facility is on budget but he’d like to see a few more units rented to help them break even. “We have ongoing costs to take care of but we’re stable in that regard.”

The year ahead will see the finishing touches go onto Cherry Creek Place. Landscaping will be completed around the building and in the courtyard.

“This is a huge asset for our community and it’s very rewarding for our group to see the project up and running. It’s created a great spark for the community. It’s great knowing people don’t have to move away when they retire, it’s a wonderful thing.” said Heide.
