A man from Ninga plans to hop on his Bike this wekend and do some cycling to raise money for the Cerebral Palsy Association Westman Chapter.

For about two decades Darren Unrau has gone biking to help support that group.

“I’ve done it now for over 20 years. I have a niece on my wife’s side who has Cerebral Palsy and so we’ve been part of it with her family and raised money for individuals in the Westman area.”

Darren Unrau points out the money stays in the region. A couple of years ago the association purchased a lift chair to help people get in and out of the Boissevain Swimming Pool. “That’s really hand for not just people with Cerebral Palsy but anybody with a disability. We’re always looking for ways to use this money for people in many different ways.”

The fund raising event used to be a stationary bike-a-thon but the pandemic brought that to a halt. Since then Darren Unrau has found ways to do some physical activity and has gone out to get pledges each year.

“We have to work as individuals and this Saturday I plan to hop on my bike and go half an hour down the road and back. I’ve had corporate sponsors in the past and look forward to getting donations to help with this year’s bike ride.”

Last year Unrau raised $3,200. Anyone looking to make a donation can call Darren Unrau at 204-534-6058.
