A fund raising golf tournament in Brandon that started back in 2018 raising $29,000 this year set a record raising more than $100,000 for Brandon University (BU) Athletics and community projects in Western Manitoba.

BU Athlete services and events coordinator Tyler Crayston said he’s always imagined hitting $100,000 dollars someday but never thought it would happen.

“It’s incredible to be honest. The $100,000 dollar mark seemed like a faraway star that you could only see with a telescope, but this is amazing and we somehow managed to get there. I believed it could happen but never thought it would and I’m still pinching myself.”

Since 2018 the tournament has raised close to $440,000.

“That money helps with athlete scholarships and helps them succeed on and off the courts and fields. We also pick as many as six community projects to support each year and that really helps bring the community together to help us raise those funds,” said Crayston.

The silent auction brought in more money in 2024. Crayston said last year it raised $8,000 and this year it was $11,000.

Close to 200 businesses were on board this year supporting everything from hole sponsorships to donating prizes.

Tyler Crayston will enjoy the success of the 2024 tournament but not for long as he starts planning for 2025 in November.
