Manitoba 4-H members and instructors are winding down their year of activities and events with their local rallies taking place typically in the month of June.

This year the Boissevain and Area 4-H Rally will take place on Thursday instead of the traditional Friday in early June.

"We've changed the date because this year the Manitoba High School Rodeo competition also falls on Friday, so just to give the opportunity for those members, mostly equine, to participate in both we're holding the 4-H Rally on Thursday, June 6th and then is the High School Rodeo on Friday, June 7th," explains Boissevain 4H leader, Victoria Nowazek.

Nowazek is co-leader of the Boissevain 4-H Home & Hobby Club and co-leader of the Boissevain Area Rally committee.

It's the 88th year for the 4H Rally in Boissevain, however the clubs are recognizing 90 years since their first rally back in 1934.  Due to covid restrictions two years were missed.

Boissevain welcomes 4-H clubs from neighboring communities like Goodlands and Deloraine, Pierson, Rivers, Kenton, Virden and Brandon clubs to join Boissevain's three local clubs.

Residents will again be able to cheer on their 4-H kids during the Thursday parade, as well as musical rides from the equine clubs and then the awards program.

Workshops are taking place in the morning, "and then in the afternoon we've got some 4-H directors who are going to put on a judging competition," she explains. "We're really trying to bring back the judging team to go to Agribition. This will give the kids a little bit more opportunity to learn about that."

4H alumni Chris Quigley will be this year's keynote speaker at the awards program.

"Chris was a member of the Boissevain Home & Hobby 4-H Club for a few years," explains Nowazek. "She grew up in Minto and so we've invited her back to talk about what she's been doing after high school, her family, and how her experiences in 4H have prepared her for her future life."
