The owner of Holden’s Honey Hollow captured first place for the best pitch at the Southwest Business Expo Wednesday in Deloraine.

Every year business owners have a chance to impress the judges for a chance to promote their product and win prize money.

Holden Ricard is a Grade 11 student and was looking for somewhere to invest his allowance money and that’s when he got started in the honey business. “I purchased 12 bee hives in 2022, went to 36 in 2023 and hope to have 50 hives for 2024.”

“My business is about producing quality products that are natural and hand made.”

Ricard sells honey, bees wax candles and food wraps and lip balm and he uses a few retail outlets and other venues to market his products.

“I enjoyed the business pitch it was a fun experience. My presentation ran about 10 minutes, and I just did my pitch on how I started and what my goals are. I also talked about finances and my business plan.”

Holden Ricard won $1,250 and he plans to use that money to purchase a honey uncapping tank.

Ricard plans to become an electrician and to keep Holden’s Honey Hollow as a sideline venture.
