It won’t be long before the ice is in and skating is underway at the Boissevain Arena.

Boissevain-Morton’s Recreation Director Sam Dyck says the ice plant has been tuned up and they’re ready to go for the 2022-23 winter season.

“We’re basically firing up the arena here for another season of hockey and figure skating. We’ve got arena bookings already coming in and out plant start up is already done and waiting for things to cool down so we can switch on the plant and start making ice.”

A company out of Winnipeg was out in late August to inspect the plant and do any repaired that were needed.

“We’ll probably turn the plant on the second week of September and then it usually take several weeks to build up the ice and we’re typically skating by the first or second week of October” said Dyck.

She adds it’s too early to say how minor hockey and figure skating numbers are looking.

“Outside the arena we also have gymnastics starting up again. Wendy our programmer has taken the lead on that and we’ve had a big turnout of registrations for that which is great to see.”
