A long standing bird tower in downtown Boissevain will be moved to a new location.

The purple martin tower has been a fixture along South Railway Street for decades. However, plans to redevelop the area included moving the bird tower to a new spot in town.

Boissevain-Morton’s Head of Council Judy Swanson hopes to announce more about the redevelopment plan shortly.

“These bird houses have been a great asset to our community and lots of people stop to have a look at them. But they needed some work and they needed to be cleaned out and they have to be moved. We’ll be moving them down to the Tommy Turtle area.”

The bird houses have been taken down from the tower,, will be repaired and cleaned and then put back up on the tower in the new location in the community’s south end. “We want to get the tower back up as soon as possible and then hopefully we can attract the birds to that part of town.”

Judy Swanson says moving the bird tower is happening for a couple of reasons.

“We are revamping that area happening and we’ll be working on that area to fix it up a bit. Moving the tower is part of that plan.”

Swanson adds it’s up to the contractor as to when the tower gets moved but she says it wil be sometime this spring.
