The Winnipeg Blue Bombers have added import quarterback Zac Champion to the practice roster. Champion spent 2008 and 2009 with the B.C. Lions where he went 12-of-34 for 92 yards with two touchdowns and four interceptions. He was signed by the Calgary Stampeders during the offseason and played two preseason games where he threw for 94 yards while also rushing for a touchdown. Champion appeared in 31 games over five years at Louisiana Tech including the final 25 as the team's starting quarterback. In all, Champion threw for 4,725 yards and 27 touchdowns on 423 completions. He also carried the ball for 580 yards on 163 carries and added two touchdowns along the ground. The Birmingham native finished his career with Tech's eighth best career passing yards total and tied for tenth best in touchdowns. Champion is the third quarterback the Bombers have signed this week joining Frank Wilczynski and Justin Goltz. Joey Elliott will be Winnipeg's starter when the Bombers face the Edmonton Eskimos on Saturday at Commonwealth Stadium. Steven Jyles and Alex Brink both suffered season ending injuries in Winnipeg's 27-8 loss to the Toronto Argonauts this past weekend and have joined Buck Pierce on the sidelines. The Bombers will play their season finale on Friday, November 5th at home against the Calgary Stampeders.
