As of January 1st all City of Brandon facilities will stop selling and

distributing bottled water.

Council passed a resolution to this effect Monday.
Councilor Stephen Montague was the one to introduce the motion

after Brandon University stopped selling bottled water while he served

as student union president a few years ago.

Montague isn't sure how many bottles of water were sold annually by the

city, however the combined total of bottles re-filled at two of the city's water

fountains read 17,000.

He says this means had those fountains not been in place an additional

12,000 plastic bottles could have ended up in the city's landfill.
