The City of Brandon is bidding bid for the 2017 Canada Summer Games.
The city sent a Letter of Intent and bid deposit to the Canada Games Council this week.

“With the letter of intent and a $12,000 cheque now on the way to the CGC, Brandon can focus on preparing a bid package that will showcase its capacity to host an unforgettable Games in 2017,” says Mayor Shari Decter Hirst. “We eagerly await receipt of our bid letter from the CGC and look forward to its response.”

Bid intention letters will be opened by the Canada Games Council following the March 16th submission deadline, after which time Brandon will know if it is the sole bidder for the 2017 Canada Summer Games which has been already awarded to the Province of Manitoba.

“Following that, bid preparation will begin in earnest”, Decter Hirst said, “beginning with the public introduction of the Bid Committee team”.

“We want the Western Manitoba region to be as excited about our bid process for the Games as we are” Decter Hirst said. “We have a lot of important work ahead of us, not the least of which will be pulling together the strong community team that will lead to our bidding and hosting success.”

If successful in its bid, Brandon would become the only Canadian city to host three editions of the Games.

The 2017 edition also represents the 50th year of the Canada Games and coincides with Canada’s 150th Anniversary.
