The Boissevain/Wawanesa Broncos are Provincial High School Baseball champions.

Tyler Robertson had four of the Boissevain/Wawanesa’s 17 hits as the Broncos defeated the Garden Valley Zodiacs 11-2 in the championship game Saturday afternoon in Reston.

“It feels great,” texted Broncos head coach Corey Billaney. “But I’m more happy for the boys who put in a lot of work to get this title.”

Robertson, Conner Graham and Aiden McCoy drove in two runs each.

Bryan Laing got the start in the final and scattered nine hits over six innings; allowed two earned runs in the top of the first and struck out five Zodiacs in picking up the win.

Billaney noted that the strength of his ball club was his six grade 12’s which included Robertson, Graham, Griffin Albrecht, Connor Martin, Josh Fluker and Rayan Sprott.

“They all had a role to do and fulfilled it. With the combination of good pitching and hitting this weekend, we made it easy on ourselves.”

The Zone 9 champions went 2-0 in pool play defeating the Neepawa Tigers 29-0 and Winnipeg’s Vincent Massey Trojans 19-0 on Thursday.

Boissevain/Wawanesa shutdown Glenboro/Baldur/Carberry 15-0 in the quarterfinals on Friday and beat the Zone 4 champion Morden Thunder 9-3 in the semifinals Saturday morning.

The Broncos were dominant in capturing the MHSAA championship banner for the first time since 2015.

“I’m not surprised because I knew they could play that way but satisfied that they showed themselves they could,” remarked Billaney.

Bryan Laing was named the tournament MVP.

Josh Fluker, Tyler Robertson, Griffin Albrecht were chosen Tournament All-Stars.
