Bible camps across the province were finally able to offer their full summer programs to young people and adults after 2 years of covid restrictions.

"Camps with Meaning' Director, Dorothy Fontaine, says they had a fantastic summer with 520 campers registered between their 2 Manitoba camps:  Camp Koinonia and Camp Assiniboia.

Camp Koinonia is located just south of Deloraine in the Turtle Mountains on Lake Max, while Camp Assiniboia is in the Headingly area on the Assiniboine River.

"It was very, very good," shares Fontaine.  "The campers, and the summer staff, the councilors, the leadership staff, and the volunteers, they were excited to be back and thrilled to have overnight camping once again."

"We also run weeks for adults with disabilities and we were able to run those weeks again.  So, after 2 years of really limiting the programming because of Covid I think everybody felt overwhelmingly happy about getting back to some kind of normal and being together again," she adds.

Fontaine says they hosted 86% of their pre-Covid campers of 2019, but were still thrilled with the number of registrations.  "There was some concern about how many campers would return, so we're very happy with that number."

The two camps certainly felt the financial short-fall during Covid, but the strong support and generosity of their stakeholders have contributed to them meeting that bottom line. However, they're still playing 'catch-up'.

Dorothy Fontaine shares more about the two 'Camps with Meaning' year of 2022.
