Preparations are complete and volunteers in Carberry are ready to host the Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts.

Curling starts Wednesday December 15th and wrap up December 19th and Carberry Mayor Stuart Olmstead says a lot of hard work has gone into getting the community ready for this week.

“Everyone in town is quite excited. It has been a long haul to get to this point and it’ll be great to host a live event of a provincial scale and televised nationally it’s quite exciting.”

“I can’t say enough about the volunteers and the municipal staff for the work they’ve done to get everything ready. The host committee and the rinks workers have worked tirelessly to get things ready” said Stuart Olmstead.

This is the first time Carberry has host the Scotties Tournament of Hearts and Olmstead says it’s a real feather in the cap of the local curling club.

“We’ll have lot of people coming and staying in town including the teams themselves. One of our logistical issues is the parking lot will be filled with just curlers and Sportsnet people so we’ll have to shuttle people back and forth from a nearby parking lot.”

The Carberry Curling Club is a founding member of Curl Manitoba and Olmstead says the community has been a hot bed of curling for with regional, provincial, national and even world champions coming out of the Carberry area.

“Our local club deserves a big thanks. I’m proud of what they’ve done here especially with everything around Covid. It’s been a plan and revise and revise and plan and then plan some more.” said Mayor Stuart Olmstead.

The municipal offered up the community centre to play host to the championship. “I have to give a big thanks to the groups that would normally be using the rink that have to take a break so the curling club can take over the rink for the next week.”

“I don’t know how many people this will bring to town but I know ticket sales are strong and I’m just pleased we’re able to host the event at this point and time” said Olmstead.
