Sod was turned yesterday on the 40 million dollar Spirit Sands Casino south of Carberry.

 

The casino will be owned by all 64 First Nations in Manitoba.

 

 

Grand Chief Ron Evans says trust between the province and First Nations allowed the project to proceed.

 

 

An economic analyst with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs says the casino should open by late 2011 or early 2012.

 

 

 

Manitoba's Gaming Minister Dave Chomiak says the profits will go to the 64 First Nations in the province.

 

 

An  environmental assessment is underway and construction could get underway this winter.

 

The casino will emply 200 people and generate 30 million dollars in revenue.


Spirit Sands will be the 3rd First Nations casino in Manitoba.
