The fall run is underway at the Killarney Auction Mart and owner Allan Munroe is impressed with how strong prices are to start the fall season.

Munroe expects to see lots of cattle through the ring over the next few months.

“We’re starting out very, very strong and we’re seeing prices back in line with what we saw back in 2014-15. It’s exciting to see the cattle bringing good money and the cow-calf guys and backgrounders need it.”

Munroe says the North American cattle herd has shrunk over the past few years due to a combination of drought and because prices weren’t where they needed to be for producers to make a good living in the industry.

“We sold on calf at out most recent sale for over $3.00. He wasn’t real big but if we start seeing that then I think a lot of people will be willing to sell the calves this fall and maybe hang onto the extra feed” said Allan Munroe.
