A last minute deal appears to have stopped CN Rail mechanics from taking strike action tomorrow.

CN says both sides have reached tentative agreements that would, upon ratification, provide fair wage and benefit increases.

The Canadian Auto Workers union served notice on Saturday that its workers were planning on going on strike on Tuesday.

The details of these tentative agreements are not being made public. The union hopes to complete the deal before the end of February.

The CAW represents just under 4 thousand CN workers.

The two sides have been in talks since September. The mechanics' contracts expired on December 31, 2010.
