The pandemic forced community fairs to shut down for two years with the last of the fairs going in 2019 but they’re now back on track.

Killarney and Boissevain both have fairs on this weekend. Killarney’s fair started Friday night and continues with a full program on Saturday.

In Boissevain the fair schedule starts Saturday afternoon and runs through to Sunday evening.

Chris Walker is vice president of the local fair board. “Everyone is quite excited to be back again and we’ve got some changes and extended things for the kids. Hopefully that will help to attract a few more people and bring everyone out again.”

“On Saturday we have the show and shine and we have some more heavy horses coming and the municipality donated the Canada Day fireworks so there will be a fire works display Saturday night. The food grains bank will be holding a fund raising combine pull as well.”

On the livestock side some 4-H calves will be on the grounds and Walker says at least four of them will be sold. Sunday will also include the light horse show. “We don’t have a breed show but I’m sure we’ll have quite a few cattle in the barns.

The fair board in Boissevain couldn’t find a midway to bring to town because they were booked up solid. The Boissevain fair will offer up bouncy castles, face painting and in the curling arena younger kids can participate in games.

Saturday night will offer up a steak supper and a live band and Sunday morning the pancake breakfast will kick things off.
