A group dedicated to tourism and economic growth is looking for people interested in their Local Initiatives Program.

Community Futures Westman is a not-for-profit organization, funded through the PrairiesCan, to provide programs and services to support enterprise, community-based development, tourism incentives that lead to economic growth and employment in the region.

Community Development Analyst Wendy Petersen hopes people take an interest in the program. “The purpose of the Local Initiatives Program is to strengthen our communities by supporting small scale projects led by non-profit organizations and municipalities, that strive to enhance community economic development efforts and tourism.”

The program will be awarding five grants each worth up to $3,000.

“We’ve run this program twice before, but this is the first time that we’ve gone specific with a target population. This time around we’re looking for projects that have an impact on women in their communities. We’ve had people contact us who want to run a conference to show women how to get started in business. So, we want to get information out there to support them.”

These projects can be in the fields of tourism, economic development or any projects that will have an economic impact on a community,” said Petersen.

Applications must be submitted by February 6th.
