14 Manitobans are among the 43 undergraduate students receiving scholarships from the Canadian Wheat Board.

"The Canadian Wheat Board has committed funds to a program like this since 1976 because farmers of western Canada have indicated a desire to support research and education that develops the future generation of farmers, of researchers, of scientists and leaders in western Canada," says CWB spokesperson Maureen Fitzhenry. "And these are students that are involved in university degree programs in agriculture, or in diploma programs."

Awards ranging from $500 to $1750 are going to students at the Universities of Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Alberta and Lethbridge, Lakeland College and Olds College.

The scholarships are funded by a special account made up of the proceeds from unchased farmer cheques, and the interest accrued from them.
